About Susan Sheppard

Susan Sheppard began dancing at age 5 under the direction of her father, a New England Regional Ballroom Champion. She studied for many years at Variety Dance Studio with Florence Pelaggi. During her teenage years Susan was one of the chosen few to study with Stanley Brown Studio, home to tap legends Leon Collins and Brenda Buffalino.

For many years, Susan was a principal dancer for the Joppa Jazz Dance Company where she performed at the Firehouse Theatre in Newburyport, Masschusetts. Susan started performing and competing in ballroom dance upon founding Dance Technics Studio in 1990, located in southern New Hampshire and Merrimac, Massachusetts.

Susan has performed for First Night Boston at the John Hynes Civic Center under the sponsorship of the Boston Swing Dance Society and the National Ballroom Dance Association. She has also performed at the Veronique Ballroom partnering with US Open Swing Dance Champion Maxwell Ho. Susan was a pioneer in introducing West Coast Swing in Montréal, Quebec, she produced performances, workshops, and competitions at Graffiti Tango, Studio Tango Montréal, and Lily's Milonga.

In New Hampshire, Susan was the choreographer for the Wedding Dance Exhibition at Yoken's Bridal Show, resident choreographer for Encore Theatre's production of Anything Goes, and cosponsored the Rockingham Arts Festival.

In addition to teaching at Dance Technics, Susan has taught for the Dance Place, Merrimac School District, Sanborn School District, Atkinson Community Center, Vera's West Coast Swing Club, Good Times Swing Club, Graffiti Tango, Studio Tango Montréal and Spotlight Dance Studio. Susan sold Dance Technics in 2005 and moved to New York City where she taught ballroom dance at the Birch Wathen Lenox School Center for Dance and Body, and the Bronx Arts Ensemble. Also, in New York, Susan studiend at Dance Manhattan, Steps on Broadway, Dancesport, and the Luigi Jazz Centre.

Since relocating to Massachusetts, Susan has been teaching at the Norwood Recreation Center, Newton Music Academy, and Massbay Community College.

Susan specializes in Swing, Latin, Ballroom, Tap and Jazz.
